Site Update: Idol debuts. Idol ages for movies. DMM trailer troubles.

Over the weekend debut information was added to all 37000+ idols in the database. This was an automated process that took the oldest movie assigned to the idol and used its release date to set an idol’s debut. For 99% of idols this will be accurate but for some (for example, those that changed names and have not been updated in the database or those that have missing movies) the data will be incorrect. You can submit corrections by pressing the “Suggest an edit/correction” button on each idol page.

A big bonus of this update is that it has allowed some nice filtering options for the idol database, including the ability to filter by debut year. When combining with birth year filters, you can, for example, search for all 18-year-old debuts by year. Setting the birth year to 2000 and the debut year to 2018 gives this.

Another new feature is that if an idol has a date of birth on their page, movies now display the idol’s age when the movie was released.

Finally, it seems DMM is blocking access to trailers outside of Japan. You can get around this using a VPN located in Japan. It is unknown if this is a permanent change or whether there is a workaround. For now, movie trailers have been disabled.
